Domaine Confuron-Gindre, Vosne-Romanee

There is definitely some buzz around the wines from Confuron-Gindre, and if the sales of the last couple vintages are any indication....you all have been hearing it as well. Over the last few years, Edouard Confuron has taken the vineyards acquired by his family over six generations and is making some top-notch wines. Currently the Domaine controls 27ha in Gevrey Chambertin, Nuits St Georges, and Vosne Romanee.

The recipe here is a natural and sustainable approach in the vineyards, implementing whole-cluster, and slow fermentations in a cold cellar. The use of new oak fluctuates on a vintage-by-vintage basis, but Edouard generally keeps the percentages pretty low compared to others.

2022 Confuron Gindre Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots - JM 90-94
"Mid purple, with a bouquet that is somewhat sweatily reductive. Plenty of concentration in the mouth, finishes a little on wood tannins, then the fruit comes back. Doing its usual Suchots thing of hiding in the shadows. Drink from 2030-2036."

2022 Confuron Gindre Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Brulees - JM 90-93
"1 new barrel out of two and a half. Mid purple in colour, while the bouquet is not delivering much more than the Colombière . Plenty of pleasing strawberry/raspberry fruit, a few tannins behind. Today this is not quite kicking on to full Brulees capacity. Drink from 2030-2036."

2022 Confuron Gindre Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts - JM 91-94
"A dense bright purple. The fruit has a headier note, raspberries and some roses. A tighter structure with more tension, white pepper and fresh strawberry at the back, still a few tannins but nicely integrated. Ripe but balanced, and long. May be higher alcohol. Drink from 2030-2038."

2022 Confuron Gindre Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Chaumes - JM 92-94
"Planted in 1919 and 1920. A bright mid purple lightly reductive, but with greater intensity of clean bright fruit on the palate. Lively dense cherry and raspberry, fine concentration, showing clearly more interesting than Brûlées today. Drink from 2030-2038."

2022 Confuron Gindre Vosne-Romanee La Colombiere - JM 90-93
"35-40% whole bunch vinification . Mid purple. Some extra weight of fruit along with the white pepper. Clearly more substantial on the palate, with a very clean finish, just a touch of white pepper all the way through, with correctly ripe raspberry in the fruit profile. Drink from 2029-2035."
