Thierry Allemand - New Chaillot and Library Reynard - ARRIVED!
Thierry Allemand emerged from Cornas as one of the appellation's most passionate, forward-thinking vignerons in the 1980s. Relying on no winemaking lineage, he turned to Cornas legends, such as Robert Michel, for guidance before acquiring his first plot in 1981. His holdings have grown since then, though they amount to just 3.4-hectares today. Now, Thierry's son, Théo, has assumed much of this address's responsibilities with the same exacting attention to detail as his father.

2023 Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillot
JD93-95, WA94
"Coming from younger vines and a mix of terroirs, the 2023 Cornas Chaillot reveals beautiful red and blue fruits, violets, and floral nuances. Medium to full-bodied and supple on the palate, it shows remarkable purity and a juicy, elegant character, with plenty of ripe tannins and a beautiful sense of finesse. This clearly outstanding Cornas shows the softer, finesse-driven style of the vintage and I suspect will shine right out of the gate yet also evolve gracefully."

2020 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard
JD98+
"The 2020 Cornas Reynard will most likely merit a perfect rating in a decade, and it's a legendary Cornas in the making. Saturated purple-hued, with incredible aromatics of cassis, liquid violets, new leather, and bloody, iron, meaty nuances, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, building tannins, and flawless overall balance. It has an inward, massive, backward style (it reminds me slightly of the 2010) and tastes like the blood of Cornas. It will need 7-8 years (a decade will be better) to hit the early stages of its prime drinking wine and will absolutely blow you away over the following two decades."

2013 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard
V95
"Saturated ruby. Candied black and blue fruits, potpourri, cola and smoky minerals on the explosively perfumed, sharply focused nose. Stains the palate with intense, deeply concentrated blackberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors, gaining weight and spiciness with aeration. Rich but energetic and graceful as well, finishing with superb clarity, power and mineral-driven persistence. This wine is destined for a very long, slow and positive evolution."

2014 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard
JD95
"The 2014 Cornas Reynard is similar to its younger brother, yet offers more richness, depth and minerality. Black raspberries, black cherries, pepper, crushed rocks, tapenade and smoked meat nuances all flow to a concentrated 2014 that shows the more mid-weight, elegant, yet vibrant style of the vintage. It's far from unapproachable now, yet should be at its best from 2020 to 2030."
2012 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard
WA98
"Coming from the oldest vines of the estate and one of the best vineyards in the world for Syrah, the 2012 Cornas Reynard is a massive, thick and unctuous effort that's bursting at the seams with notions of crème de cassis, crushed violets, smoked game and incredible minerality. Just a sensational Cornas that surpasses what was achieved in 2009 and 2010, this full-bodied, concentrated and structured effort has the fruit to be enjoyable now (this is a common trait of the vintage), yet has the depth, richness and balance to evolve for over two decades. It doesn't come cheap, but it's up there with some of the finest Syrahs made."

2015 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard
V98
"Brilliant violet. An expansive bouquet evokes dark berry liqueur, Indian spices, violet candy and incense, brightened by a smoky mineral nuance that builds in the glass. Sappy, sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering pliant black raspberry, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors complemented by exotic five-spice powder and white pepper accents. Spicy, sweet and seamless on the remarkably persistent finish, which displays velvety, harmonious tannins and resonating floral and blue fruit notes."
