Run, Don't Walk - 2022 Joseph Colin - Finally Got Some

The wines from Joseph Colin are TOUGH to find, and I'm excited to finally have some 2022s to offer you after not landing a single parcel since the 2019 vintage! And despite the uptick in demand and sourcing challenges, we are still bringing you the best pricing you can find anywhere!

The Colin family are a wildly talented bunch...with all the siblings working together with their father at Domaine Marc Colin. Around the same time, Pierre Yves Colin and Joseph Colin both split off to start their own labels. Joseph took 6.5ha of his family holdings and launched his first commercial vintage in 2017.

Joseph tends to pick on the early side to maintain more tension, freshness, and purity in his wines. He forgoes the oaky or reductive style in favor of more vibrancy and minerality. As he states it, his goal is to make wines as natural as possible without the steps that can cause issues in natural/low sulfur wines. And based on the feedback from critics and collectors alike, he has been QUITE successful. Even Joseph commented, in his tasting with Allen Meadows, "I would rate the quality of 2022 as equal to that of 2014, which I appreciate is saying a lot as 2014 is, for me at least, the reference standard of the last 10 years."

Rather than listing all the great scores and write-ups, I'll hit the highlights.

Batard Montrachet (I only have 2 bottles) got a JM 95-97.

All the Saint Aubin wines were in the low to mid 90s from Wine Advocate, Inside Burgundy, and Burghound.

Burghound called the "Chardonnay Les Hauts de la Combe" a "Don't Miss"

Then there is a special bottling of Chassagne Montrachet called Hereditas, which is sourced from three lieux dits surrounding Criots Batard Montrachet. All 70+ year old vines from Les Meix Goudard, En Journoblot, and Blanchot Dessous.
