Moreau-Naudet: Energetic and Stylish 2023s - IN STOCK & Ready to Ship
Domaine Moreau Naudet has been a buzzworthy and in-demand producer from Chablis for a number of years. The family has been in the wine business since the 17th century, with Domaine Moreau Naudet being officially formed in 1950 following the marriage of Marie Naudet and René Moreau. Stéphane Moreau took over the domaine in 1993 and tragically passed away in 2016. Stéphane’s inspiration had been the likes of Vincent Dauvissat and Didier Dagueneau - the later served as further inspiration for the domaine's distinctive label. Today it is his wife, Virginie Moreau and Stephane's right hand winemaker, Coco running the 25-heactare domaine.
"...The order of the day is organic (though not certified) farming, harvesting ripe yet clean fruit cropped at modest yields and extended maturation—18 months on the lees in a combination of used oak barrels (mostly 228-liter, averaging 10 years old) and stainless steel, with final settling in tank for two to four weeks. After a series of sunny vintages, Virginie has started to vinify more wine in tank (Montmains and Valmur are now matured entirely in stainless steel), as she believes this helps retain more of the classically Chablisien signatures.
These wines are always concentrated and textural, among the most characterful to be found in Chablis. The range of premier cru bottlings is the focus at this address, typically attaining its apogee with the Forêts, Montée de Tonnerre and Vaillons bottlings." - The Wine Advocate, Mar2025
2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre - WA 92-94, 93 TA
"With 12.5% alcohol, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is another success this year, soaring from the glass with a bouquet of beeswax, honeysuckle and crisp orchard fruit. Matured in a combination of old wood (30%) and tank, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated yet with good tension and structured around racy acids, with ample chalky extract and a long, sapid finish. It derives from a parcel just next to Raveneau’s." - Kristaps Karklins
2023 Chablis 1er Cru Forets - WA 92-94, 94 TA
"Vinified in a combination of used oak (30%) and stainless steel, the 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Forêts is one of the highlights from Moreau-Naudet’s portfolio this year, beautifully exemplifying the classical Chablisien character. Wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of beeswax, orange zest and pear, mingling with oyster shell, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and tense, with vibrant acidity and excellent cut. It concludes with a pure, chalky finish. Virginie Moreau admits that in recent years she has given a slight preference to Forêts over the expressiveness of Vaillons. Readers will be able to make their own conclusions, as both wines come warmly recommended." - Kristaps Karklins
2023 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons - WA 92-94, 92 TA
"Sourced from 60- to 77-year-old vines in four of this premier cru's climats, including Séchet, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons is vinified 70% in tank, with the remainder in oak (old 228-liter barrels and a few 600-liter foudres). Opening from the glass with an expressive bouquet of tangerine zest, white flowers, pear and oyster shell, it’s followed by a medium to full-bodied palate with ample chalky extract and a saline finish. It’s broader than Beauregard but simultaneously racier than Montmains." - Kristaps Karklins
