Les Horées - Contemporary Burgundy Zeitgeist
The wines of Les Horées have been on our radar for some time. Starting in 2018, backed with an envious amount of experience at the likes of DRC, Vogüe, d'Angerville, Cécile Tremblay, and a few other somewhat famous names, Catharina Sadde's fledgling domaine has since entered the Burgundy zeitgeist... Biodynamic, energetic, and effortlessly delicious range of cuvées as true to pure, terroir-driven dogma than any other Burgundy name.
Having grown up in Dresden, Germany, Sadde's access to fruit hasn't been easy, initially working négoce-style with old vine Gamay and Aligoté parcels starting in 2019, while incrementally expanding her domaine holdings. Now, she blurs the lines between the two, farming her own vineyards organically and biodynamically, while supplementing her minuscule production exclusively from like-minded growers. Horse plowing, caterpillar tractors, cover crops, massale selection are notable pieces of Catharina's farming philosophy, prioritizing biodiversity, soil health, and long-term resilience over short-term yields. She even farms her négoce parcels!
