Dehours & Fils, Mareuil-le-Port, Vallée de la Marne

Jérôme Dehours farms 14.5 hectares split between 42 different vineyard parcels across  the villages of Mareuil-le-Port, Oeuilly, Cerseuil and Troissy.  This area, the Vallée de Flagot, just south of the Marne river, is named for a small tributary river which has carved out a winding valley that Jérôme calls home.  

The Vallée de Flagot is cooler than many other places in Champagne, with Meunier is the most widely planted variety at Dehours.  Soils are sandy and clay over limestone bedrock.  The wines are vibrant, terroir-driven, and full of personality.  Just 12 bottles of each on offer today...

NV Dehours et Fils Champagne Grande Reserve Brut (Base 2022)

"The NV Champagne Grande Reserve Brut displays a light, hazy straw hue and is a blend of 70% Meunier, 20% Chardonnay, and the remainder Pinot Noir. A savory and brothy wine, it’s delicate and not overpowering in profile, with notes of wet, stony earth. The palate is more inviting and pure, with an approachable fruity feel and a ripe sensibility. It has a hint of warming spice and is rich in notes of orange pith, spice, and hints of tropical fruit, including mango skin and broth. Medium-bodied, it boasts a frothy mousse that complements its pithy and expansive texture, while remaining approachable. This release is based on 2022, with 32% of perpetual reserve going back to 1998 in the blend, with a 1.1 gram per liter dosage." -Audrey Frick

"Tinged with pink, this dry, focused Champagne offers a pleasing, raw silk mouthfeel, with a fine bead that supports a delicate weave of chopped white cherry, pickled ginger and raspberry pâte de fruit, plus a rich hint of roasted almond. Fresh and minerally on the lasting, chalky finish. Meunier and Chardonnay. Disgorged February 2025." - Alison Napjus

"With just the slightest hint of salmon copper color, the NV Champagne Oeil De Pedrix Extra Brut is composed of 84% Meunier and the remainder Chardonnay. Aromatically, it’s quite attractive and delicately floral, with notes of white strawberries, fresh peach, tangerine, and wet stone. It’s savory and inviting, with a pillowy mousse and a clean, chalky finish. Fruity but medium-framed, this is a charming wine to drink over the next 10 years. This release is from the 2022 vintage, with a dosage of 1.1 grams per liter." - Audrey Frick
