New J-J Confuron | Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Clos Vougeot & Beaux Monts!!

We've been visiting Sophia and Alain Meunier of Jean-Jacques Confuron for the better part of a decade, and it has been a pleasure to witness the quiet evolution underway at this address. Over the last few vintages, the winemaking baton has been passed to their son Louis, who has brought a fresh sensibility to the cellar, reducing new oak and incorporating a touch of whole cluster fermentation to amplify perfume, texture, and energy.

2024 Jean-Jacques Confuron Chambolle-Musigny

"A spicier and more floral nose features notes of pretty red cherry and violet. The very supple middle weight flavors do possess an appealing underlying sense of tension that carries over to the lightly stony, youthfully austere and lingering finale. This elegant and refined effort is very Chambolle in character."

"A lively crimson purple. A light reduction which barely masks the fruit. Typically Vosne otherwise, with an intensity of pure red berry fruit and a hint of spice. A fair depth of flavour here, in a style that suggests longer elevage will be of value. A long finish. Drink from 2030-2036."

"Mid purple. The nose shows quite a strong reduction, which does not stop the palate delivering a powerful, almost rugged weight of fruit, with fair length and not too much tightened up at the back. Drink from 2032-2038."

*From a 0.5 ha parcel of 105-year-old vines adjacent to Richebourg*
"Half a crop could be made, amounting to 3.5 barrels. A glowing purple with a ruby edge. The Romanée St-Vivant shows plenty of fruit concentration with a slight reduction and a little oak. There is significant density on the palate, with a deep plum character behind the red berries. A mineral freshness behind, altogether this is hanging together nicely. Drink from 2034-2040."
