2024 Edouard Confuron: A Young Maverick in Vosne-Romanée!

Edouard Confuron struck out on his own in 2021 with a mere 1.8-hectares he inherited from his father. Located in Vosne-Romanée, the domaine has largely flown under the radar since its debut, with most bottles never making it to the states. Across his parcels (sometimes just a few rows of vines!) and in the cellar, Edouard has made serious qualitative changes: organic farming, whole-cluster vinification (100% in 2024), and depreciable percentages of new oak, bringing extra finesse into the wines. This domaine requires fresh attention.

"Bright, fresh and spot-on aligoté aromas include those of green apple, citrus and spice. There is fine volume and density to the delicious middle weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the agreeably dry and bitter lemon-inflected finale. This is a quality example of the genre and worth checking out if you can find it."

"Cool aromas include those of various red berries, earth, pepper and a pretty floral top note. There is fine density for the vintage to the delicious and succulent middle weight flavors that conclude in a lightly austere and rustic finale To enjoy on the younger side."

"A distinctly earthy nose of cool red pinot fruit, violet and a subtle but not invisible application of wood leads to delicious and slightly finer flavors that display even better length on the equally youthfully austere and mildly rustic finale. Good quality here and worth considering."

2024 Domaine Edouard Confuron Gevrey-Chambertin les Sevres

"Bright, fresh and softly earthy aromas are comprised by notes of wild red currant, cherry, plenty of floral nuances and a similar touch of wood influence. The finely detailed and vibrant flavors are not particularly dense but they do offer better depth and length on the moderately rustic and youthfully austere finale. If you're willing to be patient for a few years, this is worth considering."

"As much purple as ruby, with a brisk red fruit immediately apparent, fresh raspberry with some pepper. Deliciously juicy on the palate, rich cherry, a little crushed strawberry, and a fine long and clean finish. Drink from 2028-2032."

2024 Domaine Edouard Confuron Vosne-Romanee le Pre de la Folie

"Mid ruby in colour. A gentler and perhaps riper cherry fruit on the nose. The white pepper shows up mid palate while the fruit continues through in a long finish. A little acidity, fine tannins despite the whole bunches. Drink from 2028-2032."
