Domaine Direct - 2022 Jean Claude Bachelet

We have been hearing the buzz about Jean Claude Bachelet wines for a while...and after trying them several times in Burgundy and from bringing in previous vintages, we've been thoroughly impressed. So much so that we have teamed up with Jean Claude and Benoit to import the wines directly, ensuring we get the variety and quantities to satisfy the thirst for these wines.

The Domaine has flown under the radar, mostly due to Jean Claude's hesitancy to taste with industry critics. Now the sons have taken over, tweaked the style to be more terroir driven, and slowly started opening the doors to the press. We are excited to offer the selection of 2022s below as we dive into this new chapter with Jean Claude Bachelet!

This first wave features the Bourgognes and delicious lieu dits bottlings from Chassagne and Puligny.

"As I've written before, one of my favorite estates in the Cote de Beaune is Domaine Jean-Claude Bachelet, where brothers Jean-Claude and Benoit have been taking the wines to new heights in recent years. Serious viticulture, carefully chosen harvest dates, long press cycles and extended elevage in wood on the lees, followed by bottling under high-quality natural cork, are the order of the day. Maturing vineyards, more refined cooperage choices and a spacious new winery in the hamlet of Gamay are surely just a few of the small details that together account for the qualitative progress that's been made over the last decade. They harvested late in 2021, daring to retain plenty of lees, and matured the wines for the usual 24 months in barrel, delivering a lovely range that evokes the white Burgundies of yesteryear" - Wine Advocate, Jan 2024

Bourgogne Rouge
JM 86-87 - "Intense dark fruit, dark raspberry and blackcurrant, but not cooked, correct acidity, an extra burst of flavour behind. Pretty intense stuff for Bourgogne."

Bourgogne Blanc
JM 87-89 - From two parcels in Chassagne Montrachet - "Quite concentrated for this level of appellation, the fruit more at the front of the palate, a lemon acidity fair length."

Chassagne-Montrachet Le Concis des Champs Rouge
VM 89-91 - "well-judged acidity, pliant red fruit, black cherries and white pepper, plus veins of graphite toward the impressively long finish."

Chassagne-Montrachet Septem Terrae
Not Rated - Special blend of "7 Climats" - Blanchots Dessous, Les Beuttes, En Journoblot, La Tetiere, Poirier du Clos, Concis des Champs, and Encegnieres

Puligny-Montrachet Les Aubues
JM 92-94 - "electric steely backbone, and kicks on extremely well in terms of fruit intensity on the palate"

Chassagne-Montrachet Les Encegnieres
JM 91-94 - "A lovely thread of mineral acidity through the middle and the fruit keeps returning in a lively fashion. Super wine!"
