Champagne Pascal Doquet, A Devoted Terroir Purist and Fine Selosse Disciple... Wines IN-STOCK

"Selosse Disciple" It is used often and mostly without context and unfortunately misrepresenting the product or producer.  This is not one of those examples...

Pascal Doquet learned the importance of detailed great care of a vineyard and the value of organic viticulture from his time at Chez Selosse.  With that influence, he has taken his own journey to enhance his family's vineyards.  This is a great example of the impressions made my Guillaume and Jacques that have driven Pascal to succeed in his own way by focusing almost exclusively on the vineyards to allow his wines to voice themselves with very little intervention.  The wines Pascal makes have no resemblance to the wines made at Chez Selosse, but that is not the story.

Champagne Pascal Doquet, Vertus, Cotes de Blancs

Pascal has inherited some lovely 1er Cru and Grand Cru parcels from his father in 1994.  It was split evenly among Pascal and his sisters.  In 2004, Pascal purchased those shares from his sisters to be the sole owner and producer.  Since then, all the vineyards have been certified bio and the work being done is indeed biodynamics.  Pascal's focus in the vineyards lends itself to the hands-off approach in the winery.  The complexity of terroir, coupled with high quality fruits and careful harvesting yields wines of depth, precision, and layers of complexity.  Given the respective crus, the Le Mesnil Grand Cru, and the Vertus and Le Mont Amie 1er Cru sites produce lovely and pure examples of some very fine Blanc de Blancs.

In this offer of IN-STOCK bottles, they are all 2009 vintage bottles which are still maturing and absolutely delicious.  When we tasted the range of wines made by Pascal and his son in Champagne last April, I was very impressed at the additional nuances and layers of added complexity their wines shown.  This is a significant factor of Pascal influence in the vines.
