Brochet is Back! Reigning Champ of Artisanal Champagne
Emmanuel Brochet owns just one vineyard, Le Mont Benoit. A distinctive chalky outcropping in the plain west of Montagne de Reims, its weather exposure is extreme in comparison to neighboring terroirs: it's colder when it's cold, hotter when it's hot and windier when it's windy. Out of enthusiasm rather than obligation, Emmanuel inherited the 2.5-hectare parcel from his grandparents who had previously contracted it out for nearly 40 years before passing it down to their grandson in 1997.
Purity, precision, and perfect ripeness balanced with a mineral backbone. It's no wonder Brochet has developed such a strong following!
Le Mont Benoit: A blend of two consecutive vintages, typically utilizing all 3 grapes and bottled with very little dosage.
Les Hautes Vignes: From a parcel of vines planted in 1962 at the highest point of Le Mont Benoit, which is aged longer sur lattes and derives from a single vintage. A blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Meunier.
Rosé d'Assemblage: The one cuvée that includes purchased fruit. Produced from organically farmed Pinot Meunier that was planted in 1965 in the lieu-dit La Montelle in Villers-aux-noeuds, just a couple hundred meters from his own estate.
2018 Champagne Emmanuel Brochet Les Hautes Vignes Extra Brut
WA95
"Disgorged in December 2025 with a dosage of two grams per liter, the 2018 Les Hautes Vignes Le Mont Benoit is the second rendition of this cuvée, and it soars from the glass with aromas of yellow apple, orange oil and dried apricot, mingled with blanched almonds, honeycomb and freshly baked bread. Medium- to full-bodied, textural and vinous, it is built around ripe but vibrant acidity, uniting the high maturity of the vintage with the chalky signature of the site. Less concentrated and a touch softer than its immediate predecessor, it is nevertheless a lovely wine. Readers will recall that it originates from the uppermost part of the slope, where vines planted in 1962 from massal selections grow in shallow soils comprising barely 30 centimeters of topsoil over chalk. It is an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier."
