Chacra: Jean-Marc Roulot's Patagonia Side-Project!

Since Piero Incisa della Rocchetta left his family estate of Sassicaia and acquired the vineyards known as Bodega Chacra, his estate has grown to become Patagonia's leading sources of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In collaboration with terroir consultant Pedro Parra, pruning specialist Marco Simonit and Jean-Marc Roulot, Chacra achieves a level of harmony, transparency, and complexity that is entirely unique in the spectrum of the region's offerings.

The estate spans 32-hectares of vineyards established in 1932, 1945, and 1955, now farmed organically and biodynamically, all of which lies on an ancient riverbed of sandy soils with calcareous and silt components. All plant material is exclusively that of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines!

Minimal intervention in the cellar, native fermentations, zero acidification or enzyme additions are the Burgundy inspired rudiments of Chacra's approach. Élevage averages 7-9 months in used barrels, amphorae, and concrete, completely avoiding new oak. Mainqué is fermented in 25-30% new barrels (the same barrels Jean-Marc Roulot uses in Meursault) and does not go completely through malo.
