The Hill of Corton: Appellation Spotlight

The mighty hill of Corton.

This grand cru is so exceptionally unique and complex that a lifelong study to this vineyard may not be suffice in fully comprehending it. The Corton hill is split roughly into 40% Chardonnay (Corton-Charlemagne and Charlemagne) and 58% Pinot Noir (Corton). Spanning roughly 150 hectares across three villages (Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny, and Pernand-Vergelesses) the vineyard's terroir varies greatly, thus offering a striking range of expressions from a single hill. This diversity is part of what makes Corton unique among Burgundy's grand crus: unlike most, which are defined by a single, narrow band of vineyards, Corton encompasses an entire hill.
