2022 La Soufrandiere from The Bret Brothers

We've heard some wonderful things about the Soufrandiere wines from The Bret Brothers and brought a bottle back from a recent trip to Burgundy.  Once we tried it, coupled with our interest in wines of the Macon, we were officially on the hunt!  And finally the day has arrived that we have some to offer.

Brothers Jean Guillaume and Jean Philippe both have degrees in Viticulture and Enology, and both worked at wineries in the US and France before taking control of the family estate.  Jean Guillaume worked at Newton Winery in CA, along with internships at Verget and Chateau Lagardine.  Jean Philippe spent some time at Ridge/Lytton Springs in CA in addition to Comtes Lafon and Verget.

La Soufrandiere was purchased by their grandparents in 1947 and the sons officially took over in 2000, acquiring the 4.5ha in Pouilly Vinzelles, later acquiring a 1ha Clos in Macon Vinzelles and a few others in Saint Veran and Pouilly Fuisse.  Always using Organic and Biodynamic practices and aging in old barrels, stainless, or concrete.  These 2022s haven't been reviewed, but past vintages have been quite well received by the critics.

Macon Vinzelles Le Clos de Grand Pere is a plot that came from their Grandfather's Grandfather, 60 year old vines planted in limestone.  Saint Veran La Bonnode comes from the base of the Roche de Vergisson, a 1.88ha east facing plot near Combe de Roches.  Then Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts is from their oldest section in the middle of the vineyard near an old shelter, planted in a mix of limestone and clay.
