2022 1er Cru from Meursault and Volnay... Bitouzet-Prieur

Today I am pleased to offer more of the wines of Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur from the 2022 vintage.  

Domaine Bitouzet, once a classical benchmark for Reds in Volnay, married into the Prieur family (matriarch, wife Annie Prieur) from Meursault to form the merger of both family’s holdings.  The family only works from Estate owned vineyards and some killer parcels at that.  Since the son, Francois, has transitioned into his role as lead winemaker from his father Vincent, the wines are becoming more detailed and polished from a once strictly classical, old-school style.  Today, they are working out of a brand-new facility of which it is located just down the road from Henri Boillot.

2022 Meursault 1er Cru Santenots - VN 92-94, JM 91-93
"The 2022 Meursault Santenots ler Cru has a complex nose: yellow fruit, spice box, touches of fennel and crushed stone, all coming through with aeration. The palate is very well-balanced with good weight - a lovely creamy texture whilst retaining tension. More open than other cuvees and persistent in the mouth, this is a well-crafted and delicious Meursault." - By Neal Martin on October 2023

2022 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes - VN 91-93, JM 90-93
"The 2022 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has a very attractive nose with yellow fruit, peach skin, touches of beeswax and crushed stone. The oak is very nicely integrated. The palate is well-balanced, the 20% new oak well-judged, and the crisp acidity imparts freshness and tension. It delivers the concentration you expect from a Charmes, with the orange peel and tangerine finish lingering nicely in the mouth." - By Neal Martin on October 2023

2022 Meursault 1er Cru Perrieres - BH 94, JM 92-95
"From vines planted in 1983 in the central core of Perrieres. There is quite powerful fruit, with the full imprint of Perrieres, ripe pears with the apples, a significantly greater depth of fruit than the Charmes, well tied in to the acidity, and with fine length. 2022 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chenes -  BH 94, VN 92-94, JM 91-94
"The 2022 Volnay Clos des Chenes ler Cru is very expressive on the nose. Redcurrant, wild strawberry and light rose petal scents unfold in the glass, less immediate than the Caillerets but ultimately offering more complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. This is harmonious, taut, fresh, and well-defined, with a composed but persistent finish. Excellent." - By Neal Martin on October 2023

2022 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets - BH 93, VN 91-93, JM 91-94
"The 2022 Volnay Les Caillerets ler Cru is well-defined on the nose, again, with plenty of ripe red brambly fruit, commingling with sous-bois, orange rind and crushed stone aromas - one of my favorite aromatics amongst the reds. The medium-bodied palate is quite saline, with gentle grip, finer tannins than the Taillepieds, and quite a succulent, lightly spiced finish.
